The project supports an independent grant making foundation that will promote democracy and civil society development throughout the broader Middle East and North Africa and that will be supported by funding from many countries and organizations. This will be accomplished through preparation of effective administrative policies and internal control procedures meeting international standards, combined with a staff of highly qualified candidates for foundation senior staff positions submitted for review and selection.

The MEPI Alumni Network supports the creation of six country-level alumni chapters, with steering committees of MEPI alumni, to leverage U.S. investment in MEPI program participants and to provide ongoing support, development, and communication. The alumni network provides quarterly professional development and network activities and specialized support for the Study of the United States Institutes Program.
