MEPI grantee Lebanese Center for Active Citizenship empowers local women

MEPI Local grantee Lebanese Center for Active Citizenship (LCAC) successfully empowered and trained 100 refugee and Lebanese women to produce and sell high quality fishing nets.  The program also trained the women on how to market their product and cut out middle men, further empowering these women economically in their communities.  The women have been able to sell their nets and services to local fishermen in Akkar area and in neighboring Tripoli.  Moreover, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), which is currently working in Akkar area as part of its efforts to support Syrian refugees, contracted with the women to weave 240 fishing nets for a period 3 months to distribute to needy refugees.
